Immunisation Support

Immunisation is an integral part of general practice. The Australian Government's General Practice Immunisation Incentives (GPII) have assisted GPs as primary immunisation providers, with incentives for providing individual immunisations and for having at least 90% of their patients under seven years of age fully immunised.

Fremantle GP Network Support
The Practice Liaison Program team members can help practices ensure protocols and procedures are in place to maintain safe and effective immunisation practice.  Areas of support include:

  • Facilitating the Department of Health Immunisation course
  • Cold chain management
  • Understanding the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) and how to analyse reports to improve your immunisation rates
  • Data cleansing
  • Patient resources

Support is available through one on one visits to your practice, telephone support and education events run throughout the year. FGPN is able to loan a data logger out to practices at no charge to support you in managing your vaccine fridge. If you would like to know more or book the logger, please call Palee Kaur on (08) 9319 0555.

2010 WA Vaccination Schedule:

This schedule is based on the National Immunisation Schedule and is modified to suit WA Immunisation requirements.

Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR):

ACIR  is a national register administered by Medicare Australia that records details of vaccinations given to children under seven years of age who live in Australia. This site has 2 main parts. The general information area is for parents to access general vaccination information on the vaccine schedule and also to check their child's  vaccinination history. Health providers have access to a general site for information as well as a secure site to obtain statistics for their practice and check patients' immunsation status.

Immunisation calculator:

The immunisation calculator is a computer-based system that uses the National Immunisation Program schedule. It recommends doses of vaccine be given at specific ages. If doses of vaccine are delayed or missed, the calculator will assist in providing a 'catch-up' schedule for future vaccine doses.

WA Department of Health Immunisation Certification course

This course has recently been reaccredited and is now available for all general practice nurses who are interested in gaining accreditation for their immunisation skills. Below are some useful links for the course.

  Australian Immunisation Handbook- 9th Edition

This is the gold standard for Immunisation practice in Australia. The Immunisation handbook was prepared by the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) of the Australian Government of Health and Ageing to provide clinical guidelines for health professionals on all aspects of immunisation.
