Introduction

Accreditation is the longest established and most widely known process for the external evaluation of health care services.

Accreditation is a voluntary process of quality improvement that will assist your practice to increase efficiency, improve systems, reduce risks and stay current with trends and best practices in general practice.

Accreditation also provides access to the Commonwealth's Practice Incentives Program (PIP) and attracts 30 RACGP group 2 CPD points for each doctor.

RACGP 3rd Edition Standards

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has developed a set of standards for their profession. A practice's policies and processes are assessed against these standards. The standards have been designed to meet the diversity of general practice and can be tailored to suit individual practice requirements.

Accreditation may be undertaken through Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) or GPA Accreditation Plus.

The RACGP 3rd Edition Standards incorporate the following 5 key areas:

  • Practice Services
  • Rights and Needs of Patients
  • Safety, Quality Improvement and Education
  • Practice Management
  • Physical factors for Workplace Health and Safety

Fremantle GP Network Support
General Practices have access to telephone support and practice visits from members of the Practice Liaison Team for accreditation and reaccreditation issues. Templates and resources can be provided and mock accreditation/reaccreditation visits can be arranged.
